Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of how popular culture depicts women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded accolades for her work. She is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in the popular culture. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals on the internet. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. In addition to being a well-known public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while studying at the University. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet to examine the how gender is represented in video games. In the end, she ended up being victimized by online harassment. The attack did not stop her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her determination as a feminist critic of media. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She also serves as the founder and director of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies pop culture depictions of women.
